🏡🐑 The Gîte: A former Médoc sheepfold, renovated over 20 years ago by Céline and Mathieu, it has hosted a gîte since 2008. It's adjacent to the owners' house but completely independent. Surrounded by fields and forests, it guarantees a calm and relaxing space for young and old, and if you're lucky, you might even spot deer in the morning!
The sheepfolds of Gironde and the Landes region were located in the "landes," a vast marshy area, long before the state decided to plant maritime pines to drain the marshes. The shepherds were known to travel on stilts, thus avoiding sinking into the marsh waters. In Carcans, the sheepfolds are built with Médoc bricks or "Brach" bricks and wood.
🪿 Farm Animals: Ducks, geese, chickens, a rooster, and our pet cat "Tigri" are on-site. They have access from the gîte and love your fruit and vegetable scraps!
The Owners: Mathieu comes from a Médoc family and always dreamed of living in a sheepfold; he's made that dream come true with Céline, his wife, a painter and nature lover. They can guide you on your visits, culinary discoveries, and nature walks. 🌿🪿
🌿 The gîte is in the heart of the countryside, located:

> 10 minutes by car from the largest natural lake in France (Lac de Carcans Maubuisson) and its Bombannes activity center offering water sports and treetop adventure courses,
> 15 minutes by car from the Atlantic Ocean
> 30 minutes by car from the prestigious Médoc vineyards
> 1 hour from Bordeaux and its historical sites
🚴🏻 The "Médoc Bleu" is renowned for its cycling paths that wind through forests and along the Atlantic coast. The gîte is ideally located near a path entrance and the "Vélocité" route that runs along the entire West coast of France.
